Ontario’s Action Plan: Responding to COVID‑19 outlines the Province’s first steps to tackle the COVID‑19 outbreak head on.
The Province will continue to closely collaborate with its partners, including the federal government and Ontario’s municipalities, to protect the economy. Experience has shown this is most effective when governments work together. And this is exactly what the province has done.

Interest and Penalty Relief for Businesses
On March 25, 2020, the Ontario government announced a five-month relief period for Ontario businesses who are unable to file or remit select provincial taxes on time, due to the special circumstances caused by the coronavirus (COVID‑19) in Ontario.
Beginning April 1, 2020, penalties and interest will not apply to Ontario businesses that miss any filing or remittance deadline under select provincial taxes:

Retail Sales Tax on Insurance Contracts and Benefit Plans

The province has launched a toll-free line 1-888-444-3659 to provide support to Ontario businesses who have questions about the province's recent emergency order to close at-risk workplaces following recommendations by Ontario's Chief Medical Officer of Health.
